Jeffery R. Walden

Jeffery R. Walden is a Senior Vice President for the Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund, L.P. Jeffery manages political and government relations. He is responsible for interfacing with local, state and federal governments, and managing political and community relationships. Additionally, Jeffery is responsible for sourcing investment opportunities in various markets nationwide and working with operating partners on issues of entitlements, development and redevelopment. Prior to joining CJUF, he served as Deputy Mayor of Economic Development for the City of Los Angeles, where he managed all of the activities of the Mayor’s L.A. Business Team (Economic Development Unit) and led the creation of Genesis L.A. As Deputy Mayor, Mr. Walden was the senior official responsible for directing the City’s efforts in the revitalization of underutilized and blighted sites in disadvantaged communities, promoting the development of key growth industries throughout the metropolitan area, and L.A.’s Downtown Sports and Entertainment District and Residential Adaptive Re-Use program. Mr. Walden coordinated the efforts of various City, State and Federal economic development agencies, and led the Mayor’s efforts to create legislation and institute policies and procedures that streamlined the City’s entitlement and permit process in urban redevelopment zones. Mr. Walden possesses an in-depth knowledge of the building trades and contracting processes from his fifteen years of service in the Los Angeles Department of Building Safety as the Director of the Building Inspector Program. Most recently, Mr. Walden has served as Board Commissioner for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority, Board Member for CREW Los Angeles and Co-Chair of the L.A.’s Downtown Nighttime Broadway Task Force. He holds a B.A in Business Administration from Cal State Los Angeles, and an A.A. in Real Estate Development.
