Hilton Washington and Towers

Washington, DC

Canyon-Johnson and Lowe Enterprises Investors purchased the iconic Hilton Washington hotel from Hilton Hotels Corporation in May 2007. The new ownership team will invest in a $100+ million top-to-bottom renovation of the legendary hotel. The CJUF/Lowe Enterprises joint venture has entered into a long-term management agreement with Hilton Hotels Corporation.

Set on five acres near Dupont Circle, the Hilton Washington is in the heart of one of the area’s most desirable and distinctive shopping, dining and residential neighborhoods. Beyond its 1,119 rooms, the hotel currently has 110,000 square feet of meeting space, including the signature 36,000-square-foot International Ballroom, the city’s largest hotel ballroom.

Highlights of the scheduled renovation include:

  • Guest rooms and common areas will be updated with fresh décor. Complementary design schemes will be introduced throughout the public spaces, including a richly refurbished grand lobby and reconfigured food and beverage outlets. Meeting areas will be modernized with technology and updated finishes.
  • The renovation of the guest rooms and public spaces will involve a modernization of the HVAC and elevator systems, making the hotel more efficient and environmentally sensitive.
  • The 110,000 square feet of meeting and event space, which features the 36,000-square-foot International Ballroom, will be expanded and reconfigured to add a Junior Ballroom and to accommodate multiple groups and events simultaneously.
  • Extensive modifications will be made to the gym and pool areas. The existing 1,200-square-foot fitness center will be reconfigured to include a spacious spa.

The ownership team’s investment strategy also includes the development of a separate residential project on underutilized land that is adjacent to the hotel. While the residential project, which is slated to include between 150-200 residences, will be distinct from the hotel, its design will conform to the context of the hotel and to the surrounding DuPont and Kalorama neighborhoods, and residents will have access to the amenities and services of the hotel.
